Sister Janet Cassidy, OSB

Sister Janet Cassidy, OSB, was born on January 21, 1943 in Peoria, IL, daughter to James and Dorothy Cassidy and is the second oldest of six children.  She received a rich Irish and Catholic heritage filled with love and faith. 

She attended St. Bernard School in Peoria, staffed by the Sinsinawa Dominicans, and graduated from St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo, IL in 1961. Sr. Janet earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA.  After entering the St. Mary Monastery community in 1963, Sister Janet made her perpetual profession on June 15, 1968. 

In 2019, Sr. Janet (Dominic) marked 55 years teaching Catholic education in Illinois.  She taught at St. Anthony School in Atkinson, Sts. Peter and Paul School in Nauvoo, and Holy Family School, Peoria.  Sr. Janet taught at Seton Catholic School from 1982 until she retired in 2016.  Since retiring, she has been working half days at Seton, providing help in math for students.  She also taught at St. Thomas More School in Munster, Indiana. 

In 2020, Sister Janet marked 55 years serving in Catholic education.  “It’s a great responsibility and privilege to influence a child’s moral compass at that age. If I died right now, I would have no regrets,” Sister Janet said. “My life has been blessed.”  Sister Janet celebrated her 50th jubilee in 2013.
