Remembering Sister Katherine Keogel

Our Sr. Katherine Keogel died Monday, Oct. 10, at the monastery. A true firebrand in her passion for righting social injustices, Sr. Katherine was the best friend of the downtrodden … but maybe not always welcomed by the powers that be.

She had what she characterized as a “fierce” sense of right and wrong, inherited from her father. “I was called Sister Hell-Raiser when I was on mission in Peoria,” she said in an interview. “I had to make some noise on behalf of people who have nothing and no one to speak for them. I got what I wanted – justice – for one dear old lady. Poppa was very proud of me!”
