Sister Jozefa Seskar, OSB 1927-2016

Sister Jozefa Seskar O.S.B., 89, of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, passed away Friday November 25, 2016 at the monastery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel at St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Monastery, where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, is in charge of arrangements.

Jozefa Seskar was born on March 19, 1927 in Tomiselj, Slovenia, the daughter of Franc and Marija (Oven) Seskar. She attended Tomiselj Grade School, Slovenia and later St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo, IL.

In recent years, Sister partnered with the Blue Cross Mission Ladies of St. Ambrose Parish in Milan.

Sister Jozefa entered the Benedictine community on September 8, 1950 and made her final profession as a Benedictine Sister on August 24, 1955. Her ministry included food service at St. Mary Monastery, Nauvoo, IL, St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo, IL, and St. Anthony Convent, Atkinson, IL.

She is survived by her Benedictine Sisters; sister, Ivanka Modic; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rev. Franc Seskar, Ivan Seskar; sisters, Marija Seskar and Francesca Persin.
