Sister Mary Jean Feeney, O.S.B, 98, of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, died Saturday March 25, 2017 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the monastery, where a Christian wake service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island.

Mary Jean Feeney was born May 19, 1918 in Ivesdale, IL, a daughter of John and Mary Ellen Clifford Feeney. She attended St. Joseph School, Ivesdale; St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo, IL; St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL; and Notre Dame University, South Bend, IN.

Sister Mary Jean Feeney entered the Benedictine community on September 16, 1937 and made her final profession as a Benedictine Sister  on July 27, 1942.

Her ministry after entering the Benedictine community included serving as a teacher at St. Anthony, Atkinson,IL,  Immaculate Conception, Monmouth, IL, St. Thomas More, Munster, IN, and St. Mary Academy & Grade School, Nauvoo, IL; treasurer at St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo and bookkeeper at St. Thomas More, Munster.

She is survived by her Benedictine Sisters, her sisters, Eileen Feeney and Sister Bernadine Feeney, SL, one niece, and several nephews.

Sister Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Joseph and Rev. William Feeney.
