Sister Germaine A. Cupp, O.S.B., 83, of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, died Monday, September 3, 2012, at the Monastery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of the St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Monastery, where a Christian wake service wiIl be held at 7 p.m. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Monastery, 2200 88th Avenue W., Rock Island, IL 61201.

Germaine Cupp was born on May 8, 1929, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Willis and Marie (Jordan) Cupp. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School, Moline, St. Mary's High School, Moline, graduated from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, with a bachelor's degree in education, and graduated from Clarke College, Dubuque, with a master's degree in administration.

Sister Germaine entered the Benedictine community on August 15, 1948, and made her first profession as a Benedictine Sister on June 24, 1950. Sister Germaine taught in Illinois schools at St. Roch's, LaSalle, Ill.; St. John's, Bradford, Ill.; St. Mary's, Wenona, Ill.; St. Boniface, Peoria, St. Columba's, Chicago, and St. Thomas More, Munster, Ind.; she served as Pastoral Associate at St. Mary's, Moline,, St. Joseph's and St. Pius, Rock Island, She was a Board Member of St. Joseph the Worker House and the St. Joseph Evening Meal. In addition, she was principal of St. John's, Clinton, Ill., Seton School, Moline, Holy Family, Peoria, and St. Joseph's, Pekin, Ill. She served in the monastery kitchen for several years. Sister had lived and served in the Quad-City area for the past 21 years.

She is survived by three sisters, Kathleen Johnson, Mary Castrey and Fran Wolf, her Benedictine Sisters, and her nieces and nephews. Sister Germaine was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, James, Paul and Eugene, and a sister, Jean.
