Where Are Your Stars Leading You?

Now the Magi have arrived at the Baby’s side, bearing Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Gifts fit for a king. What did this mean?

Well, Epiphany is the “Aha” moment for all involved. Mary and Joseph must have been startled by the appearance of the 3 wise men. The child they came to celebrate was apparently not to be an ordinary child!

Meantime, the new family was warned that Herod was not pleased. What must have been going on in their hearts? This child will do great things.

Aha.

So, what does this mean for us, today?

Let’s begin with the stars that we follow in our own lives. Where do they lead us?

If we heed the Magi in our own lives – those people who come to us with eye-opening news and insights – what do we learn?

Do we follow Mary’s example and accept the gift of new wisdom?

A Chalk Blessing for the New Year

This simple ritual is one that we perform every year on Epiphany, and can easily be performed at home. Praying that God watch over your home and loved ones, you use a piece of chalk to inscribe the initials of the 3 Magi above your door, bordered by the year:

20 + C + M + B + 19  (20 + Caspar + Malchior + Balthazar + 19)

May every blessing be yours.
