Sister Annella O’Bryne, O.S.B., 1909-1990

Sister Annella O’Bryne, 80, of St. Mary’s Priory, Nauvoo, died March 8 in the priory.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated March 10 in St. Mary’s Priory Chapel, Nauvoo, with the Rev. John Wissing officiating.  Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Nauvoo.

She was born May 2, 1909, in Anita, Iowa, the seventh child of Anna and Charles O’Byrne.  She graduated from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa, in 1953, receiving a bachelor’s degree in music education.  She completed a course as a Catholic choirmaster in Milwaukee and also finished the Progressive Series Music Course at St. Louis.

She taught in many schools in the Peoria Diocese; St. Edmunds in Nauvoo, Immaculate Conception in Monmouth, St. Anthony’s in Atkinson, St. Mary’s in Wenona, St. Mary’s in Moline, St. Boniface in Peoria, St. Joseph’s in Ivesdale and St. Roch’s in LaSalle.

She was a resident of St. Mary’s Priory.  She entered St. Mary’s July 26, 1927, pronouncing her final vows July 6, 1932.  She celebrated her golden anniversary in 1979 and in 1989 her diamond anniversary.

Surviving is one sister, Sr. Eugenia O’Bryne, OSF, of Rochester, Minn., and other relatives.
