Sister Clare Muschalek, O.S.B., 1915-1989

Sister Clare Muschalek, 74, of the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., died 6:18 p.m. Monday, March 20, 1989, at the priory.

Born March 23, 1914, in Breslau, Germany, she was the daughter of Simon and Bertha Bogasch Muschalek.

She was resident of the St. Mary Priory since 1977.  She entered St. Mary Priory July 4, 1931, pronouncing her final vows July 23, 1936.  She celebrated 50 years of religious commitment in August 1983.  She taught elementary school in St. John’s School, Clinton, Ill.; St. Mary’s of Wenona, Ill.; Immaculate Conception, Monmouth, Ill.; St. Johns’ of Bradford, Ill.; St. Thomas More, Munster, Ind.; St. Boniface and Holy Family, Peoria, Ill.; and also taught at Arlington and Nauvoo, Ill.  She was a member of the Music Teachers Association in the local area.

Surviving are two nephews and one niece.

A prayer service will be 7 p.m. today, March 21, 1989, at the Priory Chapel, Nauvoo, Ill.

A memorial mass for Sister Muschalek will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1989, at St. Mary Priory Chapel, Nauvoo, Ill., with the Rev. John Wissing officiating.  Her body has been donated to medical science through the Demonstrators Association of Illinois.  Barr Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
