Sister Andrea Giltner, OSB

Sister Andrea Giltner, OSB, was born on August 8, 1928 in Kewanee, IL, and was baptized on August 26, 1928 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford, IL.      

Sr. Andrea received a bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL.  She also completed classes for Special Education at Loyola University and John Hopkins University.  Sr. Andrea entered the community on October 23, 1946 and made her perpetual profession on August 23, 1951.      

As a teacher, Sr. Andrea used the practice of discernment on matters ranging from student  study habits to conflicts with one another.  Her students learned discernment is the natural result of being in relationship with God, and it is part of Benedictine monastic life.  Sr. Andrea celebrated her 50th jubilee 1998 at St. Mary’s Chapel, Nauvoo, IL.
