Sr. Jackie Walsh, OSB
Sister Jackie Walsh, OSB, was born in Kankakee, IL, daughter of Lawrence and Rita (LeClaire) and the eldest of nine children. She was baptized at St. George Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, and graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community high school.
Before entering the community, Sr. Jackie worked in the insurance industry for 34 years. She enjoyed the variety of work experiences, and the many friends made over the years. She attended Kankakee Community College and holds a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. Sr. Jackie earned her Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Spiritual Guidance Training Program in Racine, WI.
On her first visit to St. Mary Monastery in 2006, Sr. Jackie felt a sense of peace, and felt God was calling her to something more. What attracted Sr. Jackie to monastic life was how the Benedictine community lives together as one – praying, working, and playing together - always sharing the ups and down, the joys and sorrows of each other’s lives.
In 2006, Sr. Jackie began her journey of discernment and entered the community on September 6, 2008. She made her perpetual profession on August 23, 2014.
Sr. Jackie serves as Administrative Assistant at Benet House Retreat Center, and schedules celebrants for Sunday and special feast day masses. Sr. Jackie also helps with serving an evening meal once a month at the Rock Island Township.
When asked about her Benedictine life, Sr. Jackie said, “I feel such joy about choosing monastic life, and how my life’s experiences and my relationship with God continue to blossom and unfold.”
