Catholic Sisters Embrace Communion and Connection at LCWR Gathering

Sisters Sandra Brunenn and Sheila McGrath attended the annual Leadership Conference of Women Religious August 7-10 in St. Louis.

The theme “Being the Presence of Love: The Power of Communion” focused on today's urgent need for both communion and connection.

“The gathering had such good spirit,” Sr. Sandra said.

“We enjoyed a sense of commitment and solidarity with each other and the world.”

In her presidential address, Sister Teresa Maya, CCVI said Catholic Sisters share a “stubborn conviction that Christ suffering in God’s people requires our response.”

Sr. Sandra agreed, noting the assembly unanimously recommitted to its 2016 resolution against racism.

“We are called to bring about communion wherever we are,” she said, citing the Keep Todas Familias Together public prayer service hosted earlier in the summer by the Rock Island Benedictine Sisters.

“As Catholic Sisters, our gift of community is at the heart of our call. That community includes everyone, no matter who they are.”

The gathering was also a chance to renew friendships with Sisters from other communities, including 35 Benedictine Sisters.
