Love and Peace

We continue a short series written by Benedictine Sisters on what Christmas means to them. Enjoy!

By Sister Charlotte Sonneville, OSB

Christmas has always been very special to me, as my birthday is on December 21st.

I’ve always felt privileged to share this special season that brings out the generosity, peace and joy in our hearts!

My brothers and I grew up during the Depression, so to save money for some small gifts was a challenge for everyone.

I felt inspired to reach out to those who had little to share, and to work hard to bring peace to my 3 brothers.

In turn, they gave me a gift that stays with me today. They nicknamed me “Love.”

Christmas – and my birthday – remind me to keep trying to live up to that name.

To try to hear the message God sends us through Jesus’ birth in a stable: that all are worthy and lovable.

That we are called to see Christ in each person, forgive unconditionally, and share love to the best of our ability.

May you hear that same message … and know God’s peace.
