Sister Alberta Coynick, O.S.B., 1913-2003

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at St. Mary Monastery here for Sister Alberta Coynick, OSB.

Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Sister Alberta died July 12, 2003, at St. Mary Monastery.

Born July 15, 1913, in LaSalle to Frank and Agnes (Bucar) Coynick, she attended St. Roch’s School there.  Sister Alberta entered the Benedictine Sisters on Oct. 15, 1930, making her final profession of Vows on July 22, 1935.

Sister Alberta served in food service at convents in the Peoria diocese, assisted with the nursing of elderly Sisters at the former St. Mary Monastery in Nauvoo, and monitored the student-job program at the former St. Mary Academy, Nauvoo.

Her assignments included service at St. Boniface in Peoria, St. Patrick in Arlington, St. John in Clinton, St. Anthony in Atkinson, St. Mary’s in Moline, St. Roch in LaSalle and St. Edmund’s Boy School, Nauvoo.

She is survived by two nieces.
