Sister Claire Louise Smithwick, O.S.B., 1893-1988
Sister Claire Louise Smithwick, 94, of the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., died 3 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 1988, at the priory.
Born Sept. 1, 1893, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Redmond J. and Louise Brady Smithwick.
She entered the order of St. Benedict, Nauvoo, Ill., May 30, 1916, and took her vows Aug. 6, 1918. She celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1976. She taught school in Ivesdale, Champaign, Monmouth, Peoria, Moline, Atkinson, LaSalle, and Nauvoo, all in Illinois.
Surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A wake service will be 7 p.m. today at the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill.
The service for Sr. Smithwick will be 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., with the Revs. Thomas Brajkovich, John Wissing and Paul Showalter officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Nauvoo, Ill. Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
