Sister Siena Murphy, O.S.B., 1902-1980
Mass of Christian burial for Sister Siena Murphy, 77, Benedictine Sister of St. Mary Priory who died Oct. 24, will be concelebrated by Father Thomas Fahey and Father John Wissing at the priory chapel Saturday, Oc. 27 with burial in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Sister Siena was born December 12, 1902 at Champaign, a daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Carrol Murphy. She entered the Benedictine Order at St. Mary’s Priory in 1920. Sister celebrated her golden jubilee in 1971.
Sister Siena earned a degree at St. Ambrose College and a Master’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Illinois. In addition to her choral work, she also taught instrumental music. Sister Siena served in Moline, Peoria, Bradford, Clinton and Monmouth.
A cousin, Sister Frances Martin of the Dominican Order in Springfield, is her only survivor.
