Sr. Cabrini Rael, OSB 1928-2013

Sister Cabrini A. Rael O.S.B., 85, of St Mary Monastery, Rock Island, died Monday, October 14, 2013 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Chapel of St. Mary Monastery, 2200 88th Ave. W., Rock Island. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Monastery, where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Cabrini A. Rael was born April 25, 1928 in Puerto de Luna, New Mexico, a daughter of Frank Rael and Susan Page Rael. She attended Santa Rosa Elementary, Santa Fe, New Mexico and St. Mary’s Academy, Nauvoo, Ill. She graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Sister Cabrini entered the Benedictine community on Dec. 8, 1948 and made her final profession as a Benedictine Sister on June 24, 1953.

Her ministry included teaching school at St. Mary’s, Moline; St. Boniface, Peoria; St John, Bradford; Holy Family, Peoria; St. Columba, Chicago; Immaculate Conception, Monmouth; Sts. Peter & Paul, Nauvoo, Ill.

She is survived by her Benedictine Sisters; brothers, John and Donald Rael; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank and Joseph Rael; sisters, Sister Augustine Rael and Thelma Bonney.
