Summer 2022 Oblate Newsletter

Dear Oblates,

According to the calendar summer has officially arrived here.  In the liturgical calendar it is Ordinary Time.  So, what happens in this ordinary time?

Just as in our world seeds have been planted in our gardens, so the seed of Jesus’ unselfish love has once again been planted within us through the paschal mystery.  Now, in these ordinary days and weeks, our precious gift of love needs to be tended anew in our lives and shared with others.  O, how our world needs our gift of love to counteract the following ills present in families, neighborhoods, and our country!!

  • The violence of disrespect, anger and hate that crushes hope

  • The greed for power and possessions while our sisters and brothers go hungry and homeless

  • The fear that closes doors and refuses welcome and compassion to the suffering, immigrants, and refugees

  • The lack of gratefulness for and care-less use of earth’s resources

During this ordinary time in ordinary ways let us tend the garden of God’s love within and around us so that the beauty of hope, sharing, welcome, compassion, gratefulness, and caring may bloom and bring joy to our brothers, sisters, and Mother Earth.

In the words of Poet and Peacemaker Mattie J.T. Stepanek: “Be a peace seeker, a peace maker, a peace bringer…Think gently, speak gently, live gently.”

My prayer is that you and your families may have a blessed summer.

Love and peace,

Sister Ruth Ksycki, O.S.B.

Oblate Director
