Rock'N Retreat

  • Benet House Retreat center 2200 88th Avenue West Rock Island, IL, 61201 United States (map)

Join us for a morning of creativity and spiritual reflection during our Rock ‘N Retreat. Laura Baum-Parr will guide us as we reflect on various aspects of our lives, using rocks as a metaphor for that which gives us strength and meaning, especially during difficult times. Artist Stacy Hirschi will provide rocks collected from the shores of Lake Superior and guide participants as they paint beautiful Christian symbols and designs on them. This retreat combines the beauty of nature with our creative processes and inner reflection to enhance our understanding of God’s presence in our lives.

Date: April 25

Time: 9 am-12 pm

Fee: $45 (Includes facility use, materials and facilitator fee)

Facilitators: Stacy Hirschi and Laura Baum-Parr

Registration deadline: April 15

Stacy Hirschi is a lifelong lover and seeker of finding and picking up rocks, especially agates. She began painting beautiful designs on them about 10 years ago, and has taught classes at churches, schools, and women’s shelters. She enjoys helping facilitate the Rock ‘N Retreat; Stacy preps the rocks beforehand and guides participants as they paint colorful designs and symbols on the rocks. She believes the creative process is a great accompaniment to one’s spiritual journey.

Laura Baum-Parr is the former Coordinator of Marriage and Family Ministries for the Omaha Archdiocese. She was responsible for the development of marriage preparation and marriage enrichment programs, as well as facilitating programs entitled Strengthening Catholic Families and Leadership in Family Ministry.  Laura is the author of the book,” When Grace Happens: Prayers and Reflections Revealing the Sacred in the Ordinary”.  Laura has also worked for many years as a school psychologist in the public schools, which she believes has greatly benefited her work in ministry.
