Marching for Families
Despite extreme heat, 600 Quad-City area people gathered at Vander Veer Park in Davenport on Sat. June 30 to protest the separation and detention of families at the border and in our communities.
The Benedictine Sisters stood with the protesters.
The Families Belong Together rally was one of about 700 protests held across the country on Saturday.
According to NPR, 2,342 children have been separated from their parents since May. They have been separated at the border, with the children and parents sent to separate detention centers across the country.
Although a federal judge has ordered authorities to reuinite families, the New York Times reports that there are no plans to release children while their parents are being detained.
