Sister Anna Clare Hanna OSB, 93, of Rock Island, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the monastery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, is handling the arrangements.
Sister Anna Clare Hanna was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Ivesdale, Ill., the daughter of Titus Alva and Clara Anna Thiel Hanna.
Sister Anna Clare entered the Benedictine Community Aug. 20, 1929. She made religious profession as a Benedictine sister July 14, 1931. Sister Anna received her B.A. in education at St. Ambrose College, Davenport, M.S. in music education, University of Illinois Urbana, Ill.; Certification on Religious Studies, Mundelein College, Chicago; COE program, St. Francis Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.; certification as a Pastoral Associate from the United States Catholic Conference. Sister Anna Clare served in various roles as teacher, music instructor and principal at Wenona, Atkinson, Moline, Nauvoo, Clinton, Bradford, Ivesdale, Peoria (St. Boniface), LaSalle, Monmouth, and Chicago; ministered as religious education coordinator in Munster, Ind; and in Pastoral Care at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, Ill.
She served as Subprioress of the Sisters of St. Benedict from 1988-1991, and tutored students at St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo after she retired in 1991.
Sister Anna is survived by her Benedictine Sisters; her brother-in-law, Elmer Konzen; and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Leo and Owen Hanna; six sisters, Florence, Helen and Mary Adele Hanna, Rita Konzen Claire Seyler and Agnes Clark.,
