Sister Celestine Fitzpatrick, OSB, 1905-1996
Sister Celestine Fitzpatrick, Order of St. Benedict, 90, of the St. Mary Monastery, Nauvoo, IL, died at 12:45 p.m. Monday, October 28, 1996, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born December 23, 1905, at Amboy, IL, she was the daughter of Patrick D. and Mary Ahern Fitzpatrick.
Sister Celestine entered the Benedictine community Nov. 1, 1926, and made her final profession as a Benedictine Sister July 7, 1931. She attended St. Ambrose University at Davenport and taught at St. Mary’s School in Moline, IL,; Immaculate Conception in Monmouth, IL; St. John’s School in Clinton, IL; St Thomas More in Munster, IN; Alleman High School in Moline, IL and St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, Il. She was active in the parish ministry of Immaculate Conception at Monmouth.
Survivors include her Benedictine Sisters; one sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.
A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at the chapel at St. Mary Monastery in Nauvoo.
The funeral for Sister Celestine will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Monastery Chapel in Nauvoo with Revs. Eugene Lauer and Donald Fitzpatrick, her nephews, and the Rev. Robert Maloy officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo.
Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
