Sr. Geraldine Gallivan, OSB, 1896-1996
Sr. Geraldine Gallivan, 100, Order of Saint Benedict, St. Mary Monastery, Nauvoo, IL, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996, at the monastery.
Born April 1, 1896, at Hume, IL, she was the daughter of Thomas and Johanna Foohey Gallivan.
She entered the Benedictine community in November 1916. She attended DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and Rosary College in River Forest, IL.
Sr. Geraldine taught at St. Peter & Paul School in Nauvoo, St. Mary High School in Moline, Il, St. Mary School in Champaign, IL, Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth, IL, St. Mary Academy in Nauvoo, Arlington Public School in Arlington, IL, and St. Boniface School and Spalding Institute both of Peoria, IL
She also worked at the Viatorian Seminary Library in Arlington Heights, IL.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
A memorial mass for Sr. Geraldine will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Monastery in Nauvoo, with Revs. Robert Maloy and Robert Reynolds officiating.
Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
