Sister Dolores Harrington, O.S.B., 1901-1986

Sister Dolores Harrington, 84, of Nauvoo, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 19, 1986) at St. Mary Priory in Nauvoo.

She was born Dec. 2, 1901, in Champaign, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Harney Harrington.

Surviving are a brother, Francis B. Harrington of Sioux Falls, S.D; and a sister, Mrs. Grace Ducey of Champaign.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo.  She earned her degree in philosophy from DePaul University in Chicago, and received an MA degree in history from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.  She taught in elementary and secondary schools for 64 years, including Alleman High School in Rock Island and St. Mary Academy in Nauvoo, where she served as assistant principal.  She taught Latin and history and was the prefect for girls.  She tutored Latin and was a developer for the Academy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Priory in Nauvoo by the Rev. John Wissing and Paul E. Showalter.  Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary Priory or Academy.
