Sister Helen Highfill, O.S.B., 1923-2004

A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered Thursday, Dec. 16, in the chapel of St. Mary Monastery here for Sister Helen Highfill, OSB.

The body was to be donated to Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa, with inturnment at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Sister Helen died Dec. 14, 2004, at the monastery.  She was 81

Born May 16, 1923, in Peoria to Herman and Anna (Dietrich) Highfill, Sr.  She attended St. Mary’s Cathedral School and the Academy of Our Lady.

Sister Helen entered the Benedictine community on August 15, 1948, in Nauvoo and made her final profession on August 25, 1955.  She served her community as a secretary to the prioress and also provided health care and food services.

She is survived by one brother, James, of Peoria, and many nieces and nephews.
