Sister Mary Osborn, OSB, 1938-1997

Sister Mary Osborn, 59, of St. Mary Monastery, Nauvoo, IL, died Friday, June 27, 1997, in Quincy, IL.

Born March 24, 1938, in Moline, IL, she was the daughter of Lee William and Alice Lucille Wilson Osborn.

Sister Osborn entered the Benedictine community on Aug. 15, 1956.  She made her final profession as a Benedictine sister July 11, 1961.  She was a graduate of St. Scholastica College in Duluth, Minn.  She received her degree in library science from the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL.  She was a school teacher and lived at St. Mary Monastery in Nauvoo for 41 years.

Survivors include her Benedictine Sisters; a twin brother, Martin Osborn of Rock Island, IL; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A Christian Wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Monastery Chapel in Nauvoo, IL.

The funeral for Sister Mary Osborn will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Monastery Chapel, with Revs. Robert Maloy and Paul E. Showalter officiating.  Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo.

A memorial has been established for St. Mary Monastery, Box 128, Nauvoo, Il 62354.

Barr Memorial Chapel of Fort Madison is in charge of arrangements.
