Sister Zita Ohlweiler, OSB, 1912-1997
Sister Zita Ohlweiler, 85, of St. Mary Monastery in Nauvoo, formerly of Peoria, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
She was born April 23, 1912, in St. Louis to Ernest and Pearl Fraize Ohlweiler.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Mildred Grady of Moline.
She entered the Benedictine community Sept. 3, 1930. She made her final profession as a Benedictine sister on July 22, 1935.
She attended the University of Illinois and received her bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree in speech pathology.
She was a tutor at Holy Family in Peoria and Immaculate Conception in Monmouth.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Monastery Chapel in Nauvoo, where a Christian wake service will be at 7:00 p.m. tonight. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo. Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
