Sister Mary Therese Harvey, OSB, 1903-1994
Sister Mary Therese Harvey, 90, St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 1994, at St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill. following failing health the past year.
She was born Nov. 15, 1903, at Streator, Ill., the daughter of Michael and Mary F. Reece Harvey. She entered into religious life Sept. 7, 1923, and made her first profession July 16, 1925.
Sister Mary Therese Harvey had been a resident at St. Mary Priory for 71 years. From 1925 to 1957 she variously taught first through sixth grades, music and singing, St. Roch at LaSalle, Ill.; St. Anthony at Atkinson, Ill.; St. John at Clinton, Ill.’ St. Joseph at Ivesdale, Ill.; St. John at Bradford, Ill.; St. Thomas More, Munster, Ind.; Holy Family at Peoria, Ill.; St. Peter and Paul School, Nauvoo, Ill.; And was a substitute teacher at Chicago and LaSalle, Ill.
From 1971 to 1980 she spent in Nauvoo, substituting and teaching in parochial grade school at Nauvoo, working as Chapel Sacristan and performing light duties.
Her body will lie in state at St. Mary Priory Chapel after 5 p.m., Friday, with a vigil service at the Priory Chapel at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Priory Chapel with Rev. Richard Slavish officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Nauvoo.
