Sister Sandra Mock, O.S.B., 1938-1990
Sister Sandra Mock, O.S.B., 52, a member of St. Mary’s Priory, Nauvoo, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 22, at the Priory, where she had been ill for several months.
A wake service was held at the Priory on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services and Mass were held on Monday, Dec. 24. Burial was in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Nauvoo.
Sister Sandra was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Otis and Veva (Welch) Mock. She attended grade school in Davenport and Atkinson. She then attended St. Mary’s Academy for four years, graduating in June of 1956. In August of 1956, Sister Sandra entered St. Mary’s Priory, pronouncing her final vows in July of 1961. She went on to receive her bachelor of arts degree from St. Ambrose College.
She celebrated her silver jubilee in 1983. She taught religious education in Ladd and Peru, and was assigned to St. Mary’s Academy in 1970 as a resident assistant and most recently, a counselor.
Sister Sandra loved nature. One of her greatest joys was her duties of caring for the lawns and gardens at the St. Mary’s complex.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Veva and Walter VanDeWoestyne, Atkinson; a brother, Dr. Farrell Mock, Bluffton, Ind.; a half-brother; John VanDeWoestyne, Geneseo; and a niece and nephew Andrea and Larry Mock, Bluffton, Ind.
