Sister Walburga Schmidberger, O.S.B., 1908-1987

Sister Walburga Schmidberger died at St. Mary Priory on June 5.  Born in Wenona, Illinois, on January 13, 1908 to Frank and Bertha Rench Schmidberger, she was the youngest of seven children, all of whom are deceased.  She attended school in Wenona before entering the Sisters of St. Benedict in Nauvoo on August 15, 1926.  She made final profession on July 7, 1931.

Sister Walburga served many years in the Food Service Department at St. Mary Priory and St. Mary’s Academy; also serving in LaSalle, Monmouth and Peoria.

She suffered many years with crippling arthritis and had been retired since 1974.  She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The Wake Service was held at 7 o’clock on Sunday, June 7 and the funeral was at 11:00 on Monday, June 8, at St. Mary Priory.  Lamporte Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
