The Souls of Our Lost Ones Shine Down Upon Us
We continue a short series written by Benedictine Sisters on what Christmas means to them. Enjoy!
Sister Mary Jane Wallace, OSB
As I sit in the quiet
looking at the Christmas Crib
and the Holy Family …
I think of my own family.
I reflect on the mystery of the birth of a child.
A miracle.

Christmas is a family feast.
My mediations during this season are filled with family thoughts, and the wonderment of the mystery of birth and death that comes into the lives of all families.
I lost my own baby brother, mother and father during December.
I’m reminded of these prayerful words from the Native legend:
Perhaps they are not the stars,
but rather openings in heaven,
Where the love of our lost ones
Pours through
And shines down upon us
To let us know
Their souls are at peace.
God’s peace to you.
