Storytending: Cultivating a Life of Compassion for Self and Others

  • Virtual and On-Site at Benet House Retreat Center 2200 88th Avenue West Rock Island, IL, 61201 United States (map)

While none of us can rewrite our life’s history, we can re-author the stories we tell about our lives. Re-creating the stories, we tell about our lives has vast implications. Those who tell more redemptive stories tend to lead more generative lives. The more beauty, truth, and goodness we come to see in ourselves, the more beauty, truth, and goodness we tend to see in the world and its peoples.

This retreat is designed for all those who yearn to discern where life-giving meaning can be found in our stories—both others’ and our own.  Our time together will be devoted to periods of prayerful introspection, personal writing, and deep listening in small groups.

Date: Saturday, Apr 9

Time:  9 am-4 pm (CT); 10 am-5 pm (ET); 7 am-2 pm (PT)

Fee: $90/virtual or $115 onsite (includes lunch, snack and beverages; handouts).

What participants are saying . . .

-Just a brief note to thank you for the deep work that you offer in your teaching, spiritual development, and retreat style. I am an avid retreat attender and have not received anything as powerful. The timing and the pairing of your reflection questions offered a new and refreshing glimpse into my authentic heart . . . The intimacy has fostered a stillness that I have been working with for the past week which is bringing forth new clarity. Your willingness to risk and be vulnerable with participants was a clear example of you living  and practicing what you say and deliver. Please know I have deep gratitude for the work you bring into the world. Yes, your quiet powerful presence has left an imprint in my heart.

--Thank you again for the wonderful workshop experience!  I knew the day before the workshop that it was going to be a very important and life-giving experience but didn't expect it to be as powerful as it was.   I feel especially fortunate to have shared the small group experience.  It was very special to me.   It will continue to bear fruit for me, as I resumed daily writing practice again after several years' break with your book as a guide.  Blessings to you and your important work!
